Monthly Archives: July 2010

Well, it’s that time of year again folks. It’s time to pack-up my giraffe print overnight bag, wave goodbye to my husband and kids and head down to the beloved town of Grand Forks for some much needed retail therapy with my shopaholic mother. I have butterflies in my stomach because I’m just that excited. Target-Target-Gordman’s-Target…oh boy! It’s not that I really NEED anything (although I’m sure I’ll be justifying all sorts of purchases within the next few days), it’s more that my sanity is hanging by a thread and it’s just so nice to be able to carry-on a conversation or try on clothes without a million interruptions.

So I’m off for a few days. Hopefully I’ll return to you much more calm and relaxed and in the right frame of mind to tackle painting the basement all by myself….

Songs to bop your head to – Lisztomania.

I’ve heard this song on the radio a few times and while it’s a catchy tune and all the thing I like most about it is that I just can’t sit still while it’s playing. Inevitably my head starts bopping, my fingers start drumming, my shoulders start rocking from side to side. I’m sure I look like a total fool to the person in the car next to mine but you only live once right? Why not enjoy the music of the French group Phoenix while you still can? There’s a number of songs that’ll do that for me and this is one of them. Enjoy!

Lisztomania or Liszt fever is a term used to describe the intense fan frenzy directed toward Franz Liszt during his performances. This frenzy was first occurred in Berlin in 1841 and was later coined by Heinrich Heine in a feuilleton he wrote on April 25, 1844, discussing the 1844 Parisian concert season. The word is a portmanteau of “Liszt” and “mania”. Lisztomania was characterized by intense levels of hysteria demonstrated by fans. (Taken from Wikipedia)

Chop. Chop. Chop.

As if it’s actually July 21st today. That seems crazy to me. Where did July go? I haven’t even had a beach day yet! On the other hand…YAY! I get to have a mini-vacation with my mom in a week-and-a-half. Sooooo looking forward to getting away.

Anyways, I finally managed to get to the hairdressers a couple of days ago. I’ve been at my mom’s house for the past few days trying to break-up the ‘single-mom’ week (James is away fishing) so I thought it would be a good time to get my hair done. It’s been waaaaayyyyy too long (since before Haiti). But what’s even more exciting about me finding time in my busy mom-life to see my hairdresser is….Amelia got her first haircut! Ya-hoo! I’ve been wanting to get her hair cut for quite a while and since her birthday is in just a few days it seemed like good timing. I personally thinks she looks adorable

I wanted to cut her hair for a few reasons.

#1. It’s always getting in her food (because she’s a train-wreck).

#2. It’s really thin (like mine) so it’ll help it to grow in thicker.

#3. What’s cuter than a little girl with a bob? Nothing.

#5. Her hair has CRAZY tangles in it every day.

#4. It’s always getting in her food (because she’s a train-wreck).

Now she’s all ready to be 3! She really likes seeing herself in the mirror and looking at her new do. While I’m a bit sad to have chopped-off all of her baby curls I fully realize that it had to be done at some point. Now I just hope that James likes it.

At the dinner table.

Rhys: Mom, would a bear actually eat me?

Bria: A bear isn’t going to come and eat you.

Rhys: But why would a bear eat me?

Bria: Well, if it sees you and thinks that you might hurt it, then it might attack you.

Rhys: No, not me.

Bria: Why not you?

Rhys: Because I can fight bears. I Backa fight.

Bria: What’s Backa fighting?

Rhys: It’s a whole bunch of different fights all mixed into one. I’d fight the bear and I’d win. And then if there were three bears, I’d fight the first one and then jump off of it’s back onto the second bear and then onto the next bear and then get away.

Ammie: I like bears. I do. I like bears.
